Manufacturer's Brand Overview: [Edit]
Sambazon is the global market leader in Açaí - a delicious and powerfully nutritious purple berry that grows on palm trees in the Amazon Rainforest. Sambazon's product portfolio of Organic Açaí beverages, frozen Açaí berry products and Açaí supplements are enjoyed by both world-class athletes and health-conscious consumers, and available at major retailers across North America including Whole Foods Market, Jamba Juice, Krogers and thousands of grocery chains, specialty stores and juice bars across the country. Sambazon's market-driven conservation business model in the Amazon Rainforest promotes forest stewardship, creates new jobs, improves living conditions and educational opportunities for thousands of small family farmers through the sustainable management of the Açaí palm tree. In 2006, Condoleezza Rice named Sambazon winner of the “Secretary of State Award for Corporate Excellence” for helping to create worldwide awareness and demand for the Açaí fruit while supporting local indigenous communities in Brazil. Amazon Energy
Category: Energy: Regular; Packaging: 12 fl oz
BevNET Review:
Sambazon, a company known for producing acai based juice drinks, has entered into the traditional energy drink category with its Amazon Energy product. The product uses a USDA Organic mixture of acai, acerola juice, guarana extract, Guayaki branded Yerba Mate, and Steaz branded green tea extract. The resulting product has an extremely enjoyable taste to it, complete with a mildly sweet, earthy flavored body and notes of acai, yerba mate, and green tea. Packaging fits well with the existing Sambazon brand and the purple colored can has a clean front panel that is easy to read and pleasing to the eye. Overall, this is an innovative and extremely enjoyable product.

Rio Energy
Category: Juice: Smoothie; Packaging: 10.4 fl oz (310 ml) plastic
BevNET Review:
Rio Energy is Sambazon's entry into the hybrid energy category. It uses an acai-based formula like its other varieties, but it also has added yerba mate and guarana. The flavor is good, but not as clean and smooth as other varieties, especially in the product's finish. Specifically, something tastes a bit off, which certainly could be the result of the added mate -- it has an earthy note to it. A bit of cleanup at the end would be nice. And, for the record, we didn't feel any buzz from the product (not a surprise given that it has a reasonable 42mg of caffeine per bottle). Packaging is the same as the other recent Sambazon additions, with a purple-wrapped bottle that has prominent promotion of its organic formulation. We do, however, think the word "energy" is minimized relative to the other words on the label. Plus, the word "RIO" touches the word "ENERGY", which results in the word looking more like "BIO." A little space would quickly clear that up. Overall, a good entry, but we'd like to see a bit more to differentiate it from the rest of the line AND a bit more emphasis on the energy additives.

Antioxidant Trinity
Category: Juice: Fruit Juice; Packaging: 10.5 fl oz (310 ml) plastic
BevNET Review:
Now THIS is what a superb acai product tastes like! The flavor is clean and crisp, with an ample dose of real fruit flavor, including blueberry, pomegranate, acerola, and acai. All four of these flavors can be distinguished in the mix. They also combine perfectly together, resulting in a complex flavor that is tremendously enjoyable and smooth from start to finish. The packaging features the trademark Sambazon purple and it definitely omits a vibe of "super premium." However, the blue and pink colors used for the lettering don't really go with the other colors on the bottle, leaving the bottle feeling a bit incomplete. Still, a superb product and, color choices aside, we think it's one of Sambazon's best yet.

Organic Açai Juice (Purple Power)
Category: Juice: Smoothie; Packaging: 10.5 fl oz (310 ml) plastic
BevNET Review:
The most recent beverage from Sambazon is Purple Power, a lightly flavored organic beverage that features a mellow dose of acai and agave. With only five ingredients (always a plus, in our book), this beverage has a wholesome flavor that’s not as intense as some of the other Sambazon drinks. Specifically, the tart and sweet flavor that we typically see in acai beverages is not as prevalent in this variety. Also, at 155 calories and 22g of sugar per 10.5 oz bottle, Organic Acai is a little more friendly to those who are counting calories. Finally, there is the packaging which, with its bright purple hue, is different than the green used by the other flavors. Overall, they’ve done a good job of creating a new, more mellow and, as a result, mainstream style of acai beverage.

Mango Uprising
Category: Juice: Smoothie; Packaging: 16 fl oz (473 ml) plastic
BevNET Review:
If you've never never tried açaí, but have always been curious, Sambazon's Mango Uprising is a great product to start with. The This organic concoction is made with açaí, grape juice, apple juice, bananas and mangos, resulting in a smooth flavor that's sweet and wholesome. There's also Sambazon's trademark grit, which gives it that "freshly made" feeling in your mouth. Unlike many competing açaí products, Mango Uprising doesn't overwhelm your mouth with an over tart açaí body. Instead, this well balanced product was formulated in such a way that each fruit flavor can be distinguished from the others. Plus, they've thrown in some guarana, which adds a natural boost of energy. The packaging is clean and efficient, with a 10.5 fl oz bottle making it look distinct from the larger sized bottled used by traditional smoothie drinks. However, we do think that it would be prudent of Sambazon to put a bit more emphasis on the energy boosting ingredients. Still, that's an extremely minor point for this superb product.

Strawberry Sensation
Category: Juice: Smoothie; Packaging: 10.5 fl oz (310 ml) plastic
BevNET Review:
Just like Sambazon's Mango Uprising flavor, Strawberry Sensation does a great job of providing a balanced flavor that is very refreshing. The açaí, strawberry, and banana flavors are all easily distinguishable and we love the full body and gritty finish, both of give Strawberry Sensation that fresh-from-the-smoothie-bar feeling. The use of red on the cap and labeling makes Uprising stand out from the other Sambazon flavors. Overall, an extremely palatable, organic juice smoothie.

Supergreens Revolution
Category: Juice: Smoothie; Packaging: 16 fl oz (473 ml) plastic
BevNET Review:
Smoothie brands have often SKUs like this, a wheat grass, barley grass, and alfalfa laced formula that typically appeals to the health food purist and has a flavor that tastes like mush. While the ingredients may be the same, Sambazon has removed the "mush" and created a flavor that is enjoyable and sweet, with no grassy aftertaste or other unpleasant notes. Supergreens Revolution truly is a revolution in that sense, putting an end to the myth that superfoods have to taste super bad. You'll find the mild tartness of açaí, sweet notes of apple juice, and a touch of banana and mango. Very well done.
