Hansen Natural Corporation (Nasdaq:HANS) announced that its wholly owned subsidiary, Hansen Beverage Company, long known for its high-quality, all-natural beverages, has formed a potent partnership with surf industry icon Lost International, Inc. ( www.lostenterprises.com). Hansen inked a deal to license the rights to develop, produce and distribute Lost(R) Energy(TM) -- a new energy drink that has created a huge buzz with the hip, 15-25-year-old demographic. Lost has a worldwide following for its surfboards, surf/skate apparel and accessories. The tone for Lost was set with the launch of its clothing line, beginning in 1992, followed by the release of surf videos in 1993 and later with the Lost logo on its new breed of surfboards.

BevNET Review:
The latest addition to the Lost lineup of energy drinks is "Cadillac," a margarita influenced energy drink. The product's flavor is somewhat margarita like, excluding the alcohol of course, and they've given the drink a salty finish. It's good, but much like the recent extensions to Hansen's Monster lineup, this one has a bit of a novelty factor to it. Packaging is colorful and busy, relying on the consumer to figure out the relationship between "Cadillac" and the margarita flavor that's inside the can. Overall, decent flavor and packaging, but this doesn't seem like a flavor that will be anyone's everyday energy drink.

This is another great energy drink/juice blend from the Hansen�s energy drink machine. The lightly carbonated Lost is a highly drinkable orange nectar-flavored energy drink that combines great taste with only 140 calories per can. We don�t know how well the label, with its Armageddon-like graphics and barbed wire-imagery conveys the composition of the drink, but for the Lost crowd (a slightly younger, skater-fashion type audience) the idea of Five-O (as in the cops) is a fitting name.

Unfortunately for the Hansen�s machine, this diet product only rates about a five out of ten. While the graphics on its blue and silver mural design is the coolest-looking of the Lost lot, the flavor is acidic, medicine-y and unremarkable � while its only taste is �Diet Energy Drink,� it�s not a terrible version of said taste. Worth a try if you want a cool can.

As far as we can tell, Lost Energy Drink is an indentical (or at least extremely similar) formula to Hansen's successful Monster Energy Drink. This being said, it's no surprise that the flavor of Lost is rather refreshing. The flavor is sweet and does not have a medicinal aftertaste. As for the packaging, Lost Energy Drink has a unique mural style was designed as part of their partnership with surf industry-icon Lost Enterprises. The graphics are attractive, but it's definitely questionable as to whether the product will have mainstream appeal. Regardless, we definitely give them credit for doing something unique with the can. Overall, a good product that may fit well as a secondary offering for Hansen's.
