Manufacturer's Brand Overview: [Edit]
ALO is a brand new line of refreshing drinks infused with real chunks of aloe vera pulp, a fine source of vitamins and essential amino acids. ALO drinks are all natural, with no preservatives, artificial colors, or artificial flavors. Four flavors are currently available-- ALO Awaken (a blend of real wheatgrass extract and aloe vera), ALO Exposed (original aloe vera with honey), ALO Enliven (12 fruits & vegetables with aloe vera), and ALO Elated (brewed olive leaf tea & aloe). For more information, visit ALO's website at www.alodrink.com, email ALO at info@alodrink.com, or call 650.616.7777.

ALO Exposed
Category: Juice: Juice Drink; Packaging: [Submit]
BevNET Review:
Exposed is the "original" variety of the lineup and uses aloe as its sole flavor. It has a medium level of sweetness, which is a bit too much relative to the delicate flavor of the aloe. Pieces of pulp (found in all flavors of ALO) give the product a unique consistency, which will probably appeal to some consumers while alienating others. From a refreshment point of view, they don't really do anything for us aside from reassure us of the manufacturer's intent to create a quality product. Packaging is decent, with a brand name and label design that makes it very obvious as to what the flavor is. On the other hand, we don't like the name "Exposed," which has a naturally negative connotation. Overall, it's good, but if they could dial down the sweetness and change the name, we'd really like this product.

ALO Elated
Category: Other; Packaging: 16.9 fl oz PET
BevNET Review:
The "Elated" variety of ALO is a mixture of their base aloe vera juice and brewed olive leaf tea. While mainstream consumers are likely not familiar with olive leaf tea and its benefits, it does have some level of awareness in the health and natural channels. From a flavor point of view, Elated is exactly what we expected from reading the ingredient list: mildly sweet with aloe and olive leaf flavors. The olive leaf flavor is similar in nature to an oolong tea, complete with a subtle nutty flavor. All in all, Elated is a pleasant tasting drink. Branding and packaging are good as far as eye appeal are concerned, but they need to do more to make the product's flavor and purpose obvious. If nothing else, the connection between "Elated" and what's in the drink should be considered -- we don't think it's a name that will help sell this product. Overall, a good tasting entry, but it needs more to sell the product.

ALO Enliven
Category: Other; Packaging: 16.9 fl oz PET
BevNET Review:
Of the lineup, Enliven is the clear winner in both flavor and marketability. First, the flavor, which tastes exactly like what is advertised on the bottle: aloe mixed with fruit and vegetable juices. It's surprisingly light, but has a pleasantly subtle vegetable flavor to it. The most distinguishable flavor from the veggie mix is celery, which adds a nice complement to that of the aloe. Finally comes the light touch of sweetness, which goes nicely with the flavor of the drink. Using images of aloe, fruits, and vegetables, this product's label is appetizing. However, the vertical text and conceptual name ("Enliven") seems like a risky move for a drink that uses unfamiliar flavors. Overall, a decent looking and tasting product, but they could do a bit more to make it more visually appealing.

ALO Awaken
Category: Other; Packaging: 16.9 fl oz PET
BevNET Review:
ALO's "Awaken" flavor is a blend of aloe vera and wheatgrass flavors, which gives the drink a dark but translucent green appearance. While the flavor is too sweet for our liking, we did enjoy the aloe and wheatgrass flavors. Plus, there's aloe vera pulp, which results in floating chunks of pulp throughout the drink (they have sort of a gelatinous mouth feel). This might create mixed feelings with consumers, some of which will undoubtedly be put off by these while for others it might help reinforce the authenticity of the drink. Packaging is a square 16.9 oz bottle, which has a rather health/natural channel feeling to it. It's a bit busy, but it does, based on the design, feel like a credible looking product. Overall, we'd like to see the sweetness dropped a bit, but otherwise this is a unique and enjoyable entry that will likely fit in nicely in the health and natural channel.
